Malayalam Foundation awards presented

Malayalam Foundation presented awards for the year 2011.

Malayalam Foundation, an NGO based in Mumbai, has presented the awards for the year 2011 in a grand function held at Sahitya Akademi Hall, Thrissur, on Sunday, August 19. It was attended by eminent personalities, scholars and veterans from arts, culture, literature, media, teaching, social service, music, cinema, theatre, business and other important fields.

Out of the six awards presented, two were for overall contributions in multiple domains and the remaining for outstanding contributions in the respective fields. Malayalam Foundation Awards consisted of cash, citation and memento. The award winners for overall contributions and those for outstanding contributions received a purse of Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 5,000 respectively.

The overall contributions awards were given away to noted Malayalam poet, activist and media personality Nanappan Manjapra and writer, activist and trade unionist Girijavallabhan in recognization of contributions in the fields of poetry, dramatics and media and literature, social service and trade union respectively. The outstanding contributions awards were presented to Kattoor Murali for journalism, Mundoor Rajan for Malayalam book publishing from outside Kerala, Navakam Editor C.S.Panicker for media activism through small publication and Aravindan Nelluvaai in cinema for his debut directorial venture.

Noted litterateur Madambu Kunjukuttan inaugurated the function, which was presided over by Malayalam Foundation chairman Malayalabhumi Sasidharan Nair. Thrissur Range Inspector General of Police S. Gopinath I.P.S. was the chief guest. Prof. Parambil Jayakumar’s introductory speech was the catalyst for Madambu Kunjukuttan’s thought provoking speech that was followed by an eloquent speech by the chief guest S. Gopinath IPS. Senior journalist and Deputy Editor of Mathrubhumi M.P. Surendran delivered the keynote address.

Madambu Kunjukuttan, Isaimani Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar, M.P. Surendran, S. Gopinath, Adv. A.U. Raghuraman Panicker and Priyanandan gave away the awards to Girijavallabhan, Nanappan Manjapra, Kattoor Murali, C.S. Panicker, Mundoor Rajan and Aravindan Nelluvaai respectively.

Prof. Parampil Jayakumar, Malayalabhumi Sasidharan Nair, and Thankamani of All India Radio felicitated Carnatic music connoisseur Isaimani Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar and Amritha TV Super Dancer winner Hridima Jilsu.

Girijavallabhan, Nanappan Manjapra, Mundoor Rajan, Aravindan Nelluvaai, C.S. Panicker, Gopinath Thattekkadan, Gayathri and Sasikumar also spoke on the occasion. Malayalam actress Kripa anchored the programme.
